Christmas sensory bin made from all natural materials. Great fun for kids!

My girls have LOVED this All Natural Christmas Sensory Bin that they've been playing with this holiday season.  The best part is that it is made from all natural ingredients with no dying needed.  I've found myself playing along with them MANY times-- it's just so inviting!

Here's how to make your own.

The base is made from white beans, red beans, and green split peas.

I bought 2 lbs of each kind, rinsed them thoroughly, and set them out to dry.  Some of the beans' skins peeled away because of this step, but overall it didn't affect the end product and I felt better about my kiddos playing with nice, CLEAN beans!  Just make sure the beans are thoroughly dry before they go into your bin.

Raw beans contain toxins that can make you very sick if ingested, so be sure to supervise your children carefully if they still put things in their mouth.

Throw your beans into a plastic box or tub.  We like to use these 16 quart Sterlite tubs.

The 'extras' are pinecones, holly leaves (NOT the berries--they are poisonous), cranberries, and some other evergreen foliage.  I threw in some wooden spoons, bowls, and tongs for the girls to play with.

Spread out a sheet and then let your kids play!

They can sort the different items, make soup or cupcakes, plant trees, and serve cranberry pies.  Playing with the natural textures is great for sensory input, and using the tongs and spoons is fantastic fine motor work!
