Gather Your Materials

  • paint (red, yellow, green, blue, white)
  • paint brushes
  • thick paper
  • scissors
  • glue

Directions

Paint one sheet of paper in a mostly solid color to be your flower petals and center.  You'll want to use one main color, plus one additional color, not mixed in very well, to get a swirly mixture style.  This is a great opportunity to talk about color mixing!  We used red and yellow.

Paint another sheet of paper in a mostly solid color to be your stem and leaves.  Again, use one main color plus another color to get it sort of mix-y.  We used green, white and blue.

Let these pages dry overnight.

On the back, draw the basic shapes for your flower-- petals, flower center, stem, and leaves.  Have your crafter cut out the shapes (or do it for them).

Position flower pieces onto a separate sheet of paper and glue in place.  I accidentally made our petals too big, so they hung off the page, but I actually think it ended up looking very artsy this way.

Ta-da!
