Push and Pull- Gross Motor Activity perfect for indoor play. Keep those kids active!

I'm excited to be participating in a fantastic series today. Devany at Still Playing School has been working her way through the alphabet with guest posts on Gross Motor Activities from A to Z.  All of the posts so far have been awesome, and will give you tons of great ideas for ways to keep your kids active!  This is especially tricky to do during cold winter months, but these ideas are great for all year round, and many of then could easily be adapted to do outside.

We're featuring an activity for the letter P, and we chose to spend some time working on gross motor skills by pushing and pulling.

First, I gathered some things around our house that I know my girls like to push and pull.  We used a Cozy Coupe car, a laundry hamper, and a baking sheet.  I also attached some jump ropes so that it would be easier for them to pull.  You could also use roller skates, a scooter or skateboard, a bicycle, a wagon, a plastic toboggan sled.  Look around your house-- you surely have a few options.

Next, I just told the girls that we'd be pushing and pulling.  How easy is that for an activity?!  They took turns riding in the car and hamper, pushing and pulling each other.  We pushed on carpet and tile and talked about which was easier.  They tried it with their socks on and off.  They pushed high on the objects and low on the objects.  We talked about how it was easier to push and pull when there was no one riding.

All this pushing and pulling was great work for their little muscles, balance, coordination, and it really got their hearts pumping!

And, of course, all the lovies had to go for a ride, too.

I thought this activity was a great example of how you don't have to have fancy products or spend a lot of time planning things to do with your kids.  Look around, grab what you have, and get them moving!
